Why do we worship?

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! -Psalm 95:6

The fact is that everyone worships…. something.

Whether they’re a church-going Christian or an agnostic person, worship is part of everyday life. Now who and what is being worshipped is where we find the difference.

Worship and praise is simply focusing our time, talent and treasure on something. Worship can be described as adoration, deep appreciation, or reverent attention. Praise can be described as an elevating of something or attributing greatness to. We do these activities in relationships, sports events and other everyday moments.

Misplaced worship can be found everywhere you look; It could be material things such as vehicles, homes and money, or people and relationships or anything else that can consume our time, attention, and treasure (money). As Christians, our life’s goal is bring all of our time, talent, attention and treasure to the one who truly deserves it all.

We worship God first and foremost for who He is.

This is where the true worshiper always begins –the identity of God. Who He is, his majesty, his position, his holiness, his love, his heart – should be at the center of our lives and our worship! It’s God’s person who, when we come to know him, deserves our attention, time and treasure.

Worshipping God for who he is should never be contingent upon any current circumstance, whether good or bad. Worshipping God isn’t based upon situations, feelings, locations, or anything else that could or isn’t happening. We aren’t being true worshippers when we only worship when we need something, or when things are going well, or, when the worship band is rocking. The true worshipper knows that their worship is based on who he is – the King of Kings, Lord of Lords.

Worship is a response to God’s identity. If you know who He truly is, then that will reflect in your worship life. If your vision of God is cloudy, blurred or obscured, than your worship life will reflect that.

Although it may look as though humanity is the superior being on the planet earth, deep within us, we look to the heavens to find our origins. We long to satisfy the desire to attribute greatness to our creator.

Amarillo For Christ Church Sets to Launch!

Eighty seven years ago, someone had a vision.

There was a great need in the dusty town of Amarillo, Texas – a growing population was seen in the town that needed Jesus, as well as a place to worship and a center to be discipled. That population of people where hispanic, spanish speakers, who were helping build the city’s growing infrastructure.

So in 1927, with the help of Mary E. Bivins and the donation of a decommissioned Pullman Railroad buggy, Mexican Christian Church was born.

Throughout the decades, as the city of Amarillo grew and changed,  so did the congregation. Mexican Christian Church started seeing other nationalities arriving in the city who also needed the same saving grace that brought them to God, and became Iglesia Cristiana Evangelica (Evangelical Christian Church) to better suit the community’s needs.

As time continued, so did the church. Presidents were elected, wars were fought, and times changed. In 2007, a new name that emphasized the passion and vision of the church emerged – Amarillo Para Cristo.

Today, that original vision – to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to those around us – still beats louder than ever.

That is the reason why we so proudly like to announce, a new chapter in our story, a new expression of that original vision, a new branch sprouting from this majestic church – Amarillo For Christ.

It’s been 87 years, that the good news and community service have been brought and continue to be brought in the Spanish language. Today we announce an addition to our church – to bring God’s truths to those in the English language.

The kickoff service will take place 10 am Sunday, August 16th. We invite you come and take part in history!

We are located at 2337 NE 24th Avenue, Amarillo, TX.
